Getting ready for the expedition, I am just finishing the excavation
of a number of artefacts from a site North-East of Lake Ontario. I
have been taking detailed photographs in my studio. These artefacts
were apparently cast of pure beeswax and contain residues of the local
soil, i.e. they were cast in the field.
Today it happened that I inverted these photographs – what was once
warm, fragrant beeswax has turned into melting ice. Indeed, both
materials share their vulnerability to heat.
