Not yet mentioned as crew members have been our small little friends and helpers: the pocket monsters. Deborah Warner is traveling under the guidance of her two little, brightly colored friends (which she got from a dear young friend to take to the North Pole). A fat little elephant is to be found in Cynthia Hopkins pocket, whereas the things which isn’t fish nor bug is from Marina Moskvina but made it’s way into my pocket. Essential part of this crew is the black bull, which has already travelled through Spain and is – thanks to Hannah – the Cape Farewell pet for this voyage. Missing in the image is the old Cape Farewell pocket monster that got lost on the 2007 voyage but we assume that it remained on board since, waiting for our return. We just still have to find it. And biggest part of this group is the whale, exploring the far North with Debora Rodriguez-Ingelsias. It was put into her hands by a concerned friend. Nobody really knows why we carry around this rather pitiful crew but there is a certain comfort in the knowledge that if they don’t get thrown away by us we might survive this voyage as well.
