Dawn Reade
Joins the expedition for week 1
Dawn Reade was born in Belfast and moved to Scotland to study at the University of Edinburgh in 1990. Initially, she studied History of Art, but in the end graduated with a degree in Geography in 1994. Following university, Dawn moved to the Isle of Mull with her partner, Joe and together they established a bakery business now known as Island Bakery Organics and producing organic biscuits.
In parallel with the business, Dawn has always pursued an interest in visual arts and through a combination of short courses and self- teaching she has been involved in her own printmaking practice since 1999. Dawn’s work has been exhibited locally and nationally, and she has illustrated two books by author, Guy Grieve.
Dawn has been a part of the life of An Tobar since it’s establishment in 1997. At first this was just as a keen visitor, but since 2008 she has been a member of staff, currently holding the post of Visual Arts & Crafts officer. In her role as Visual Arts Officer, Dawn has curated exhibitions, commissioned new work by Paul Kenny, and is working on programmes for the coming years. She supports a portfolio of local artists based on Mull.
