Her work is often about landscape, place and space: how we are located (and locate ourselves) in the world, absence and subtle presence.

Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum & Arts Centre, based on the Isle of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, aims to build physical and virtual focal points for exploration, innovation, communication and collaboration, locally and internationally.

Joins the expedition for week 2 Anne Bevan is an artist whose work combines sculpture with sound, video and text and she often works collaboratively with people from other disciplines. She has recently formed a new cross-disciplinary research project, CORE, which aims to bring together a network of practitioners from visual art, anthropology, landscape architecture, creative writing and geo-sciences.

Joins the expedition for week 4 Annie Cattrell is an artist whose practice is at times informed by working with specialists in neuroscience, meteorology, engineering, psychiatry and the history of science. She is particularly interested in the parallels that can be drawn within these approaches in both art and science.

Joins the expedition for week 1 Antoine Assal is a Swiss environmental scientist who specialises in environmental forensics and in contaminated land and water management.

Joins the expedition for week 3 and 4 David Buckland is an artist. He created and now directs the Cape Farewell project, bringing artists, scientists and educators together to collectively address and raise awareness about climate change.

Joins the expedition for week 2 David Harradine is an artist working across performance, installation, visual art and publication. He is co-founder and artistic director of Fevered Sleep. His current work is focused on the connections between light, landscape, weather and place, and on the subject of ageing.

Joins the expedition for week 1 Dawn, together with her partner, Joe established Island Bakery Organics on the Isle of Mull. In parallel with the business, Dawn has always pursued an interest in visual arts.

Joins the expedition for week 4 Erika Blumenfeld is an artist and Guggenheim Fellow. She approaches her work much like an ecological archivist, creating photo and video based works through the study, witness and documentation of the wondrous natural world.

Joins the expedition for week 2 Hugh Harwood is a lens-based artist preoccupied with the landscape and issues of place. Much of his individual practice is focused upon issues of history and time, cycle and change within the environment.

Joins the expedition for week 4 Iain Finlay Macleod has worked as a documentary and film director for the last fifteen years, has written over twenty plays which have been performed professionally, and has published four novels in the Gaelic language.

Joins the expedition for week 3 Ian Stephen's poetry, short fiction and non-fiction have been published in many countries including Australia, Canada and the Czech Republic. He has published many collections of poetry and one of short stories. He travels widely to perform his poems and stories and to tell traditional stories and his work often involves navigation.

Joins the expedition for week 1, 2, 3 and 4 Jo Royle, 31, is an internationally recognised ocean sailing skipper, who has sailed as far north as Iceland and south to the Antarctic. In 2004 she circumnavigated South Georgia, where she witnessed first-hand the detrimental effects of human – influenced climate change.

Joins the expedition for week 4 Jo Shapcott is Professor of Creative Writing at Royal Holloway College, University of London, where she teaches on the MA in Creative Writing. She is the current President of The Poetry Society. Her latest book of poems is Of Mutability was shortlisted for the Forward Poetry Prize and the Costa Award.

Joins the expedition for week 4 John Cumming was born in Burra Isle, Shetland, where he grew up in a crofting and fishing community, before studying sculpture and ceramics. In 2002 he co-founded Hansel, a publishing cooperative dedicated to promoting and publishing literature and the visual arts in Scotland’s Northern Isles.

Joins the expedition for week 3 Julie Fowlis is an award winning singer and multi-instrumentalist originally from North Uist and now based in the highlands of Scotland.

She is very involved with climate change and environmental issues - particularly at local level - developing projects which enable individuals and small communities to reduce their CO2 emissions.

Joins the expedition for week 3 Mary Jane Lamond is a sharer of time honoured Gaelic songs and stories. This sharing has garnered her numerous Juno and ECMA awards and nominations, critical acclaim and a worldwide audience.

Joins the expedition for week 3 Mary Smith, from Ness in the Isle of Lewis, is interested and involved in the shared experience of Gaelic traditional song in Scotland and seannos singing in Ireland. She is particularly interested in the social function of song, past and present within the Gaelic communities of Scotland, Ireland and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Joins the expedition for week 3 Matt Wainwright works as a cameraman and videographer. He throws himself into new projects with full enthusiasm, and is very excited by the prospect of his fifth or sixth Cape Farewell voyage (we’ve lost count).

She joined Cape Farewell in January 2011 having previously developed public engagement projects around art and science for the Royal Academy of Arts and the Institute of Making.

Joins the expedition for week 1 Nina Horstmann is Project Coordinator at Cape Farewell. She has a Masters degree in Art History and Classical Archaeology, and counts the organisation of a media and architecture biennale among her portfolio of cultural projects.

Joins the expedition for week 1 Oliver Rowe is an award winning chef who established London’s first locally sourced restaurant - Konstam at the Prince Albert - with over 80% of the produce used being sourced from in and around London.

Joins the expedition for week 1 Rody Gorman lives in the Isle of Skye, and has published many poetry collections. He has worked as a songwriter, lecturer, creative writing tutor and adjudicator of literary competitions.

Joins the expedition for week 2 Ruth Brennan works as a marine social ecologist in the Centre for Coastal and Oceans Governance at SAMS. Her research interests include the coupled social-ecological aspects of marine policy with a particular interest in community participation in regional marine planning.

Joins the expedition for week 1, 2 and 3 Ruth Little is Associate Director at Cape Farewell. She is an Australian dramaturg, teacher, writer and former academic who lives and works in London, where she is Literary Manager of the Royal Court Theatre. Much of her work with writers and theatre artists explores the territory at the edge of chaos, and the dynamic relationship between order and disorder.

Joins the expedition for week 2 Sara Parkin is a Founder Director of Forum for the Future. After starting her working life as a nurse, in various roles she has campaigned for the environment and sustainable development for over 40 years. In 2001 she was awarded an OBE for services to education and sustainability.

Joins the expedition for week 4 Siôn Parkinson makes artworks, writes, sings, and collaborates on curatorial projects. Parkinson’s art takes its cue from moments of ambivalence; often cognate to the on/off-ness or ‘not-ness’ state of things, it deals with aspects of grief, melancholy, human tragedy and loss.

Joins the expedition for week 2 Stephen Hurrel works with various contexts to produce temporary and permanent site-specific installations, utilizing digital and analogue media. His areas of interest include an investigation of feedback, self-generating systems and unconscious gestures.

Joins the expedition for week 2 Teresa Elwes is an artist. She also runs The Bromley Trust, a foundation concentrating on human rights, prison reform and the environment. Their current focus includes the preservation of the Atlantic Rainforest in Brazil, and innovations in sustainability aimed at reducing our demands on the environment.

Joins the expedition for week 1 Tom Duggan is a creative technician. As a sculptor he tries to create points where apparent known forces meet invisible, secret, spiritual ones, and believes that reality is really the interaction of these forces.

Joins the expedition for week 1 Vicky Long is a producer, artist and actor. As a producer, she as worked extensively on art made in response to environmental change and has worked with Cape Farewell since 2005.
