Alexandre Gagnon
Joins the expedition for week 1
Dr Alexandre Gagnon is a member of the Environmental Initiatives Research Group since November 2007 and contributes to the teaching of Environmental Science and the MSc programme in Waste with Environmental Management in the School of Science. A Geographer and Climatologist by training, his research interests range from understanding the temporal and spatial patterns of climate variability in Scotland to vulnerability and adaptation to climate change. His current research aims at assessing the vulnerability to climate change at the local/re- gional level through the application of conceptual models of vulnerability assessments, including assessments of adaptive capacity, and the identification of opportunities and barriers to adaptation. Hence, his research is multi-disciplinary, falling at the interface between the natural and social sciences; and involves working in partnerships with local government stakeholders. More recent research interests include linking science to policy and planning, particularly the investigation of the gaps between academic research in the environmental sciences and the needs of policy makers and local decision-makers. Dr. Gagnon is a member of the Society theme of the Scottish Alliance for Geoscience, Environment and Society (SAGES).
