The expedition crew of 40 includes island artists, storytellers, film makers, playwrights, architects, designers, musicians, community leaders, social scientists, ecologists, marine biologists, oceanographers, poets, acclaimed Gaelic singers and a chef.

Ruth joined Cape Farewell in 2010 as Associate Director, and has sailed on 2 Arctic expeditions. She is a theatre and dance dramaturg, a teacher and writer. She lectured in English literature at the University of Sydney, and was literary manager at the Royal Court theatre, Soho Theatre and Out of Joint, and artistic associate at the Young Vic. She is currently dramaturg with Akram Khan Company. She joins the expedition for weeks 1-3.
