Siôn Parkinson
Joins the expedition for week 4
Siôn Parkinson makes artworks, writes, sings, and collaborates on curatorial projects. Parkinson’s art takes its cue from moments of ambivalence; often cognate to the on/off-ness or ‘not-ness’ state of things, it deals with aspects of grief, melancholy, human tragedy and loss.
Siôn trained at Central Saint Martins and completed his MA at The Slade School of Art. For four years he was Creative Consultant to the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, and is currently co-curator with sculptor Phyllida Barlow of the exhibition Modern Times for Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge, in 2013.
He is the co-organiser of the series of symposia A Dying Artist, a project that explores notions of materiality and corporeality in art through their correspondence with dying and dead bodies. Inaugurated at the ICA in London over Easter 2011, the Manchester Cornerhouse presents A Dying Artist in July 2011.
Siôn is Curator of the Universities Programme for Cape Farewell and in collaboration with University of Arts London (UAL), University College Falmouth (UCF), and Liverpool John Moore’s University (LJMU) he has developed SHORTCOURSE/UK — a project set up to consider the role of emerging artists and art students in designing and communicating a cultural shift towards ecological thinking and environment.
He was born in Dundee, Scotland, and now lives and works in London. He has a daughter.
