Joins the expedition for week 2
The Bromley Trust was settled by my uncle, Keith Bromley, in 1989. We are a relatively young foundation concentrating on Human Rights, Prison Reform and the Environment. We fund strategically by developing particular focus areas within which we build partnerships, develop expertise and, where necessary, advocate for policy change. This year our grant making was just under £900,000. Our environmental funding concentrates on man’s destruction of the environment.
Currently our focus areas include the preservation of the Atlantic Rainforest in Brazil, and innovations in sustainability in order to reduce our demands on the environment. We also support work that bridges our funding streams, bringing together the environment, human rights and social exclusion. We are always interested in supporting a cultural response to issues that concern us. We have been funding Cape Farewell for five years, and currently fund the role of Associate Director.
I took over the Bromley Trust on the death of my uncle in 2003. Before taking over The Trust I trained as a letter designer and worked as a letter carver for ten years. After living in a homelessness community for several years and on the North Peckham Estate and at Greenham Common throughout the 80’s, I read for an MA in Psychology and an MSc in Forensic Mental Health and set up voluntary sector services for vulnerable offenders in the community. My main interest is my English Bull Terrier and the profound beauty of a breaking sky.
