About the Project

SWITCH is a youth poetics programme developed by the pioneering arts organisation Cape Farewell, in partnership with The Poetry Society, the UK’s leading spoken word organisation Apples and Snakes and the Shoreditch cultural venue, Rich Mix. It features the poets Charlie Dark and Karen McCarthy Woolf, and runs from January to April 2013.   SWITCH is aimed at young people aged between 11 and 18.

The Switch Inspire Site

This website has been curated by the poet Karen McCarthy Woolf. She has chosen images, text and video from Cape Farewell’s archive of cultural responses to climate change.

Cape Farewell is an arts organisation that invites artists to think about climate science creatively, and much of the material Karen has chosen is drawn from expeditions Cape Farewell led of artists and scientists to places affected by climate change – like the Antarctic and the Peruvian rainforest.

The Switch Inspire site is designed to inspire you to think about your own creative response to climate change. Click on ‘Get Inspired’ and start your journey!

Weekly Challenges on the Young Poets’ Network

To mark the launch of SWITCH, Cape Farewell has teamed up with Karen McCarthy Woolf and The Poetry Society‘s Young Poets’ Network to run a series of poetic challenges for young poets aged 11 – 18.

Launching on 18th January for 4 weeks, these challenges will inspire you to start your own poetic journey through the topic of climate change. Keep an eye on the News page to find out more, or check out the Young Poets’ Network.
