Cape Farewell launches its first international Youth Expedition 3pm<\/strong> Gamelan, Sea Shanties and Film in the Royal Festival Hall Cape Farewell Youth Expedition Launch! Cape Farewell launches its first international Youth Expedition Twelve students, from the UK, Canada and Germany are launched on the Thames to a brass fanfare from the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Embarking on a landmark arts, science and media project, the students will voyage from Longyearbyen to the frozen extremes of Spitsbergen, Svalbard in the High Arctic. Come and help us cheer them on their way.<\/p>\n Comedian, Marcus Brigstocke, hosts festivities at the launch; joined by David Buckland, artist, founder and director of Cape Farewell; Jude Kelly, Artistic Director of Southbank Centre. The event also marks the departure of Cape Farewell’s Greenland, Art & Science expedition. Cape Farewell artists, past and present, including Vikram Seth, Siobhan Davies, Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey, and scientists Prof. Diana Liverman and Dr. Simon Boxall will be there on the day, together with Southbank Centre\u2019s Voicelab singers and Martina Schwarz accordion ensemble performing specially commissioned Sea Shanties.<\/p>\n Kampung Reading Gamelan Group play a repertoire of music touching on our relationship to the sea and our environment in the Ballroom of the Royal Festival Hall, against a backdrop of Arctic Footage. To the right of The Ballroom, explore the multi-media exhibition mapping the Cape Farewell voyages.<\/p>\n
