{"id":10,"date":"2007-09-12T17:52:45","date_gmt":"2007-09-12T16:52:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archive.capefarewell.com\/voyage5\/?page_id=10"},"modified":"2021-10-11T22:33:25","modified_gmt":"2021-10-11T22:33:25","slug":"youth-voyage","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/archive.capefarewell.com\/voyage5\/youth-voyage\/","title":{"rendered":"Recent Youth Expedition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Cape Farewell Youth Expedition 2007<br \/>14th &#8211; 23th September 2007<br \/>Longyearbyen &#8211; Ny-Alesund &#8211; Longyearbyen (Svalbard)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Cape Farewell <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.capefarewell.com\/voyage4\">2007 Youth Expedition<\/a> took twelve 15-16 year old pupils from three countries \u2013 UK, Canada and Germany, to Svalbard in the Norwegian Arctic. The twelve\u00a0were selected for their enthusiasm to investigate and communicate climate change and they\u00a0lived and worked together for 10 days on the sailing schooner <em>Noorderlicht<\/em>, each participant developing a project which explores an aspect of climate change from both a scientific and an artistic perspective.<\/p>\n<h4>What\u00a0did the youth team\u00a0do?<\/h4>\n<p>Each participant\u00a0took an arts\/science project of their own to work on and present through the website &#8211; in their blog, video reports, and video diaries. Follow\u00a0their journey through their live broadcasts\u00a0as the expedition unfolded. We had great support from\u00a0the participating schools and their communities, and the wider public, during the expedition and hope\u00a0you also enjoy\u00a0following their story.<\/p>\n<h5>Who supported them?<\/h5>\n<p>Science and art mentors lead group activities and also worked with individuals to help them with their chosen projects. Cape Farewell artist Dan Harvey\u00a0was art mentor, working with Head of Art Jessica Burdett from Kidbrooke School in South London. Professor Mark Maslin, head of the UCL Environment Institute, was science mentor, working with science teacher, Keith Brindle, from Frome Community College.
