Bryony Lavery is a playwright. Her plays include Her Aching Heart (Pink Paper Play Of The Year 1992), Last Easter and A Wedding Story (2000). Her play Frozen, commissioned by Birmingham Repertory Theatre, [ TMA Best Play ,Eileen Anderson Central Television Award], was produced on Broadway where it was nominated for 4 Tony awards. Stockholm won the Wolff-Whiting award for Best Play of 2008. Recent stage work includes Beautiful Burnout [Fringe First at Edinburgh], Kursk with Sound and Fury,[Young Vic and Sydney Opera House]. Cesario for The National Theatre, Dirt [3 Helen Hayes nominations- Washington DC] and Thursday for Brink/ETT at The Adelaide/Canberra Festivals. She has written 5 plays for Connections at The National Theatre.
She has written extensively for Radio…recently adapting The £1,000,000 bank note , and Armistead Maupin ‘s Tales of The City and More Tales of The City for Radio Four Drama. Original radio work includes 272 Attempts, Requiem, The Smell of Him.
Current work – The Believers for Frantic Assembly, 101 Dalmatians for Chichester Festival Theatre, Picnic at Hanging Rock for ETT .
Bryony is currently Bruntwood Associate Playwright at Manchester Royal Exchange Theatre.
Bryony is an honorary doctor of Arts at De Montfort University and a Fellow of The Royal Society of Literature.
