Jo Royle
Joins the expedition for week 3
Jo has spent much of her life working at sea, including years as a sponsored ocean-racing skipper. In 2010 she co-designed and built a 60ft catamaran, the Plastiki, to showcase closed-loop manufacturing philosophies and reduce the billions of tones of plastic pollution in the ocean. She skippered the Plastiki for 5 months across the Pacific, grabbing the curiosity of the international media. Jo is co-founder of Common Seas, which works to inspire and demonstrate new ideas, practices and business models to ensure healthy marine environments, resilient communities and flourishing economies. She graduated with an MSc in Environmental Science and Society in 2011. In 2012 Jo was awarded The Geddes Environmental Medal.
