Cape Farewell launched its first international Youth Expedition on Sunday 9th September at Southbank Centre. Hundreds of well wishers cheered the twelve students on their way, as the expedition launched on the Thames to a brass fanfare from the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Embarking on a landmark arts, science and media project, the students will voyage from Longyearbyen to the frozen extremes of Spitsbergen, Svalbard in the High Arctic.

Canadian crew meet the Minister for Environment

Doriana, Shona and Amélie set off on their Cape Farewell journey by meeting the Canadian Minister for Environment, The Honourable John Baird with Rebecca Zalatan and Martin Rose from the British Council, Canada.

The 3 Students were also wished bon voyage by all their felllow students at a special launch for the team.

Get well soon Lydia

Earlier this week we had some sad news that Lydia, one of the students joining the voyage from Germany was not able to go to the Arctic due to illness. Katharina will be going to the Arctic on behalf of Lydia and her school.

The whole Cape Farewell team are wishing you a speedy recovery Lydia. We’re sorry you couldn’t make it to the Arctic, but your involvement so far has been fantastic and I’m sure you’re going to carry on doing great things for your school and climate change.

CarbonZero Donations launched

We need your help!
The Cape Farewell team are committed to tackling the realities of climate change with a new and innovative agenda. In 2006 our exhibition of climate artworks attracted 279,864 visitors, our film, Art from the Arctic has been shown worldwide with the BBC and is now on Sundance TV, reaching over 12 million viewers to date. Radio broadcasts, the education program, the book (reviewed in Nature) and our award-winning website attest to our success. We work to a tight budget and make sure that every penny our charity receives works very hard.

Climate change will become ever more serious, it is a worldwide issue and it is human activity that is causing this crisis. We are all involved and we all need to become part of the solution, please help us to achieve our objectives and expand the Cape Farewell agenda.

From Longyearbyen to Ny-Alesund

In September, Cape Farewell launches its first international youth expedition, voyaging north of the 78th parallel to the fragile extremes of Svalbard in the High Arctic with twelve students from Germany, Canada and the UK to investigate and raise awareness of the impacts of climate change. In a landmark arts, science and media project the young people will work alongside artist Dan Harvey, Professor Mark Maslin of University College London’s Environment Institute and others to develop scientific and creative projects.
